Terms and Conditions.   

*01. Our 3-hour beginners course cannot be taken in conjunction with any other offers being advertised and can only be used once. This offer applies to new drivers (no driving history with any instructor) wishing to book their first beginner course (manual).

Our 3-hour offer will be taken as 2 x 1.5hr lessons. 

You may then go on to buy more lessons from our Block Bookings or pay by our hourly rates. 

Our promotional 10-hour beginner course can’t be combined with any other current offers. It’s available only to new clients with no prior driving lessons from any instructor, booking their first 10-hour course in either manual or automatic. The course consists of five 2-hour lessons. After completing it, you can purchase more lessons through our block booking deals or pay by the hour. Please note, this offer isn’t always advertised.

Our 1.5-hour driving assessment is available only to new clients joining 1st Choice who have already had at least 5 hours of driving lessons, previous road experience, or held a license from outside the UK. This offer cannot be combined with any other current promotions. After the assessment, you can choose to purchase additional lessons through our 5, 10, or 20-hour Block Booking packages or pay by the hour.

04. You can book our 5 or 10-hour block sessions as many times as you need to pass your practical test, helping you save money along the way. Lessons are available in 1-hour, 1.5-hour, or 2-hour slots. If you’d like to ramp up the pace of your course, just have a chat with your instructor.

lesson cancellation

If you need to cancel a booked driving lesson, please give at least 24 hours’ notice; otherwise, the lesson must be paid for since that time could have been offered to another student. If you and your instructor can reschedule the lesson for another day and time within the same week, no fee will be charged. Keep in mind that your booked slot could be valuable to someone needing more practice.

No show of a student

If a student doesn’t show up for a booked driving lesson, the instructor will wait 15 minutes before leaving. During that time, they’ll try to contact the student by calling, texting, and knocking on the door. After the wait, a photo of the agreed pickup location will be taken and sent via MMS as proof. The lesson will then be considered cancelled, and the student will be charged—if it’s part of a block booking, the time will be deducted from the remaining hours. Keep in mind, the slot could have been given to another student wanting more lessons.

Proof of a provisional driving Licences.

You need to have a current, valid driving license—whether provisional, full, or international—and show it at your first driving lesson. You also need to be able to read a number plate from 20.5 meters away. If you require glasses or contact lenses to drive, make sure to bring them to every lesson; if you forget them and the lesson can’t go ahead, you’ll still be charged for the booked time.

Fitness to Drive.

You need to be fit to drive in line with legal and medical requirements. If your instructor believes you’re unfit to drive because of alcohol or drugs, the lesson will be stopped right away, and you’ll still be charged for the booked time.

Instructor’s Cancellations.

Driving instructors offer the same cancellation period for lessons as they do for students. However, if they need to cancel due to things like vehicle problems, bad weather, or government-related issues, they can do so anytime and reschedule your lesson within the same week or as soon as possible. Both the instructor and the student must agree on a new date and time by phone or text, and the lesson will take place at the next arranged session, usually the following week.

Instructor’s Safety.

The instructor can cancel a driving lesson at any time if they feel threatened in any way. If the lesson has already started, it must still be paid for in full.

Responsibility.

We can’t be held responsible for driving tests postponed by the DVSA (Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency). If your test is cancelled on the day by the DVSA due to bad weather, sickness, or staff shortages, they’ll rebook it free of charge. However, you’ll still need to pay your instructor’s two-hour fee, which is always charged for a driving test. This fee can be claimed back from the DVSA for cancellations due to sickness or staff shortages, but not for weather-related issues.

Cancellation of a beginner’s course or pre-paid block booking.

Cancelling a 3-hour beginner’s course, 1.5-hour assessment, or block booking will result in losing any money paid to your instructor unless the terms and conditions are met. All completed hours, including any last-minute cancellations or missed lessons, will be totaled and charged at the current full hourly rate. Your refund will be the remaining balance (for example, if you booked 10 hours but only took 5: 5 hours x £25 = £125, from the £240 paid, leaving £115 as your refund). If you stop lessons and don’t request your block booking refund within 3 weeks, you will forfeit your fee. Instructors are busy and cannot hold your slot until you decide to resume.

Refunds. 

All refunds are the sole responsibility of your instructor, as they have received all payments and are a franchisee of 1st Choice Driving School, not an employee.

Tuition Vehicles.

The school’s cars are fully insured for driving lessons, tests, Pass Plus courses, and part 2 and 3 training. They’re taxed, have a valid MOT if over three years old, and are fitted with dual controls. Lessons can also be given in the pupil’s own car if preferred, provided the learner has sufficient driving experience and the vehicle is fully insured, taxed, and, if needed, has a current MOT. These documents must be shown to the instructor before the lesson begins.
