Congratulations, you have now passed your driving test
The Pass Plus course was introduced after you passed your driving practical test to help you save money on your vehicle insurance.
The Pass Plus scheme
The Pass Plus course is taken after passing your driving test, and you have one year from your practical test date to complete it. This isn’t a test, but once you finish the course, you could get a discount on your insurance or an automatic no-claims bonus when insuring your car with one of the major insurance companies that support the scheme. Be sure to confirm that your chosen insurer participates. After completing all six modules, your instructor will inform the DVSA, who will issue you a certificate to present to your insurer. The course covers six modules in a 6–9 hour lesson in one day, but if it can’t be finished in a single 6-hour day, the remaining time will be rolled over to another day.

Making you a safer driver
Who developed the course?
The Government, in collaboration with the Driving Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and leading insurance companies, developed this course to help improve driving skills in areas where you may have little or no experience, or simply need a confidence boost. This helps lower your chances of being involved in an accident. The aim is to promote positive driving and move you away from the “driving like a learner” stereotype, while also introducing you to motorway driving for the first time. A key part of the Pass Plus course is understanding that driving can be dangerous, so it’s important to gain experience quickly and safely through professional tuition. As a new driver, you’re more likely to have an accident in your first year after passing your test than at any other time, with inexperience making you up to two seconds slower than more seasoned motorists. Young drivers are especially at risk, being involved in 20% of accidents that cause minor or even major injuries. Pass Plus gives you valuable extra experience and skills that would otherwise take a long time to develop. While insurance companies no longer recognise the Pass Plus scheme, and black box systems are now used for savings, these don’t provide proper training on motorways or different types of slip roads. For a 4–5 hour motorway lesson, call 01472 476016 to learn more.
Unfortunately, the motorway course won’t save you loads on your vehicle insurance, but it will give you extra knowledge about motorway driving that you wouldn’t have covered in a normal driving lesson, and it’s a skill you’ll have for life.
