You have two options of payment:-

1. Pay the 4 weeks franchise fee up front when you join us

2. Spread the payment over the first 4 weeks you start teaching.

Please note if you joined before 2020 you would not of paid the upfront fee you would work your 4 week's notice.

Vehicle graphics

On joining 1st Choice franchise you will be given a bonnet graphic free of charge.  You must display them on your vehicle at all time. If you do not display them you could lose your franchise with us. On the event of you losing them you will need to replace them within the same week (on the day you leave you will need to return what you was loaned).

On joining us we will loan you a teaching presenter, however you will need to return it if you wish to leave or you can purchase it for £29.99.

Clients/students

We are aware you will not keep all your student’s that you receive from us: however a sensible number is 1 out of 20 students you will lose. All you need to do is give us feedback when this happens.

Remember the golden rules.

  • Treat all your students with respect
  • Do not over work and lose your students
  • Be punctual and keep your appointments (if you know let your client/student know as soon as possible)

Promotions

You agree to all promotions that are advertised including beginners course, assessments and also agree to fill out the appropriate paper work with all new students at the start of their 1st lessons.

No show of a students

In the event that your pupil has not shown up for their lesson you (the instructor) will wait for 15 minutes before leaving, while waiting you will call and even text them. After this time a photo will be taken of the place that was agreed to be picked up and sent to the student for proof. The lesson will then be presumed cancelled and you the pupil must pay for the lesson (in the case of a block booking the time will be deducted from the amount of hours left in the block).

Driving licenses

On your first lesson your student must be shown a current UK provisional, full or international licence and log the information on your students record book.

Eye sight check

It is your responsibility to ensure your client/student can read a number plate from 20.5 meters on their first lesson. If they require spectacles/contact lenses to drive you must bring these to every lesson, if your student dose not bring them you are liable for any legal situation.

Driving fitness

You must ensure your student is fit to drive with regard to legal and medical requirements. If you feels they are unfit to drive due to alcohol or drugs the lesson must be immediately terminated and still paid for.

Instructor’s Cancellations

You the instructors will need to give the same period for cancellations as all students. Visit https://www.1stchoicedriving.co.uk/1st-Choice-Driving-School-terms-and-conditions-all-students-Grimsby-Cleethorpes-Louth-Hull-Scunthorpe-Prices-Guide for all terms and conditions set out for all 1st choice students.

Vehicle/bad weather

If you need to cancel due to mechanical issues, bad weather or government issues you the instructor can cancel at any time and reschedule your lesson in that same week or as soon as possible. However a mutual date and time must be agreed by both instructor and pupil on phone and text, then lesson will go ahead at the next arranged lesson, usually the following week.

Corona virus rules

Rules have been laid out from the government and the DVSA, so until further notice every DRIVING INSTRUCTOR and their students by law needs to wear a face covering (or mask). We also expect you to do a covid-19 flow test  at least twice a week

Instructor’s Safety

Instructors can at any time cancel driving lessons if he/she feels threatened in any way. The lesson will still have to be paid for in full if the lesson has commenced.

Cancellation from the DVSA

We cannot be held responsible for driving tests postponed by the Driving Vehicles Standards Agency. If your driving test is cancelled on the day by the DVSA due to bad weather, sickness or staff shortages the DVSA will re-book your test free of charge. However your student will still need to pay for the time allocated. Unfortunately at time fees cannot be claimed back from the DVSA for sickness and staff shortages but not for weather issues.

Using your students vehicle

Driving lessons can be conducted in the pupils own car if required, although the learner must be of a particular level of driving experience and the car must be fully insured, taxed and if appropriate have a valid MOT. These documents may be required to be shown to the driving instructor before the lesson commences.

Tuition Vehicle

You can withdraw your instructor’s tuition vehicle for any tests without notice if a pupil books a test without the instructor’s agreement.

Also the instructors can tell the student to cancel a test 4 days before their test if the instructor feel in his/her opinion student is not up to test standard.

Tuition Vehicle on a test day

On the unfortunate event you get a mechanical fault (tyre puncher, engine management light on the dash board, etc.) on a student’s test day (including the hour before a student’s test) and your vehicle is unfit for test. It is your responsibility to pay for a retest and pay for lessons up to the next test (at least 4 hours of lessons).

ADI badge

Always display your PDI/ADI badge in you training vehicle at all times.

Ensure all students have your instructors ADI badge number before booking a test.

Cancellation of a beginner’s course or pre-paid block booking

It is the responsibility of the instructor to make a refund of any cancellation of beginner's course or block bookings. On the event of this happening all left over money will be added up and you will charge at the appropriate current hourly rate. The refund will be the remaining figure (i.e. 10 hour booking paid for but only 5 hours taken. Example of calculation 5 hours x £25 = £125, you paid £240 for the block minus the £125 = £115) Therefore your final refund will be £115.

Refunds

As the instructor it’s your responsibility to refunds any money owing to his/her own student and not 1st Choice Driving School.

Personal Property

All instructors are responsible to return any items found/left in the training vehicle at the earliest opportunity.

The instructor is responsible to ensure their tuition vehicles is taxed and has a current MOT (if older than 3 years) and fitted with dual controls.

Pass plus Course

The instructor is responsible to ensure there tuition vehicles fully insured for the purpose of the pass plus course.

Also covers the 6/9 hours training if you the instructor feel the student will need the training for road safety.

Leaving the company

On the day you feel you no longer need to franchise with us we simply request 4 week's notice (you signed a document agreeing to this). Remember we have given you the opportunity to build your reputation and given you guidance from over 18+ of experience and we are expecting respect and understanding that we have some kind of notice.  Would you expect to leave your golf club once you have signed a contract!? We only expect 4 working weeks not pay for a full year.

On the week you leave you will need to sign a document stating no students have any money owing them.  Unfortunately if we do get any calls that you have money outstanding we would have to contact the police and the DVSA.

We will give you help once you have left if you need any guidance with any issues.

Signing a leaving document

One the day you leave we will need to see you so you sign a leaving form this is so if we have any call saying there is outstanding money you will need to pay it back to you students that you had but have left before they had all their driving tuition.

On the same day you will be expected to return the loan of any graphics and presenter's.

If you fail to do this you will be breaking the terms and conditions you agreed to and signed at the beginning of your contract and will be taken further.
